Thai Alley

It was refreshing to find a restaurant that not only serving Western menu, the oh-so-typical everywhere in Jakarta, either Pasta, Pizza, Sandwich, etc.

Was keen to visit Thai Alley once I read about this restaurant when it just opened last year. And it was worth the visit!

The service was good (as in most establishments in Jakarta), the staff was knowledgeable to explain what is in the menu and able to recommend which is the popular dishes in the house.

What made me also keen beside trying Thai Food in Jakarta was Thai Alley interior design. It has different concept from others and so vibrant in colour (from the web images). I thought it would be quite a big venue but to my surprise, it wasn't and looked different, but still it is an interesting design concept.

What impressed me was the use of steel wire partition for 4-seater dining section, it was a clever idea and well fitted with the theme. There is even a nice small enclosed glass area for private dining.

For the dishes, it was well cooked and I would say, the dishes portion are ideal for sharing. If you are ordering just 1 plate of Pad Thai or Salted Fish Fried Rice, it may be quite a big plate to finish by a person.
Sharing will give you chance to sample their Extensive Dishes! It was quite a lot...

I can see Thai Alley is one of a good option for corporate lunch as the mall is surrounded by office buildings. Lately, there was some revamps on the shops and department store, with Goods Dept and Cafe moved in few months back. I even read, the Hard Rock Cafe Jakarta will move here after its official closure on 31 Dec 2012.

If you are in Jakarta, this mall could be another option to host lunch or dinner beside the usual mall. And Thai Alley, can be a Good Option beside Indonesian or Western or Japanese establishments that I lost count for.

Hope to return for 2nd visit and sample other dishes here...
The wire partition, clever idea...
The Drink Preps area
The small enclosed private area
I grabbed the white cracker, it was like made from rice (?) If you like cracker like me, a good one to try...

Snapshots of the Big Menu!
Samui; orange chunks, diced honeydew, lychee and melon syrup..refreshing!

Phi Phi, the cherry and rapsberry puree, red currant, cranberr and lemon juice. Sourish, yes! So, I asked for those liquid sugar to pour in and mixed, it helped
Krabi; lemongrass, ginger, mint leaves and ginger ale

Tod Man Goong Tak Hai; Prawn Cake on Lemongrass stick; A MUST TRY! It was delicious!

The Pad Thai Talay; it looked a bit soggy but when we took a bit, it was Good!
The Stir Fry Minced Beef with Basil and Chili; it was HOT!!! We could choose other meat, I would like to try it with Squid..
The Salted Fish Fried Rice; I know it was not really typical Thai food that you would order, but I missed the Salted Fish. Too bad, the salted fish was too little to taste.
Stir Fry Long Beans with Prawns; it cooked well...
