Wooloomooloo Steakhouse @ Raffles City

Been wanting to visit Wooloomooloo ever since I read few reviews on its steak; which mostly quite encouraging.

Finally, got a chance to visit it on one rainy Sunday lunch but I only realized upon seating down that it’s Weekend Brunch Set Course Menu and there was no Ala Carte menu.
I would say this Brunch menu of 5 Set Courses turned out good and warrant me to bring my guest here on weekend.

The décor is really represent traditional Steak House with its leather covered chairs, dark wood furniture and well-dressed waiting staff.  Usually we have view from high floor but in Wooloomooloo, an eye-level view to Marina Bay Sands and surrounding is quite a good change. Overall, it gave you that sense of sit back and relax when having your steak and glass of wine.

I chose my course as Fried Hen’s Egg, French Onion soup, Wild Mushroom Risotto, Filet Mignon as my main course with fries as side dish, Wooloomooloo Lemon & Lime Pie. Comment on each dish are on photo below.

My partner in crime for lunch ordered an Egg Benedict , Lobster Bisque, Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, Tasmanian Salmon Fillet as main course and Wooloomooloo Cheesecake.

It was quiet when we came at 12.30 pm but slowly, few patrons streamed in around 1.30 pm.

I would say this is really a good place to have your basic steak cut and good dishes that accompanying it in a relax atmosphere especially after work.

It definitely warrants another visit with fellow steak lovers…

Leather bound menu

A comfortable chairs

A glass of sweet wine for the day

Classic ambience

View from the table

My Fried Hen's Egg
It was good, the timbale of tomato, avocado and hash brown really worked well together

Egg Benedict
Prettily done egg benedict

Lobster Bisque
A good lobster bisque indeed and generous portion too
A very good design of this wooden plate, with a curve to make it easier to carry
French Onion Soup
It was done perfectly, a good balance of onions
Jumbo Lump Crab Cake
I was imagining a Jumbo version but it was the opposite; it was a good crab cake and a good portion too considering we still had few meals to go

Wild Mushroom Risotto
My first bite was so good! It ain't easy to cook risotto but that day, it certainly inspired me to try my hands on at home in cooking this dish

Australian Grass Fed Filet Mignon
It was a very good filet mignon and the portion just right with fries, tomatoes on vines and arugula as side dishes
Beautifully cooked
Tasmanian Salmon Fillet
For non steak lover, this was a very main course, the sauce and its garnishes just added in nice flavor for this dish

Wooloomooloo Cheesecake
I preferred this than the Lemon & Lime Pie, the cheesecake texture was soft and worked well with the ice cream

Wooloomooloo Lemon & Lime PieIt was good but somehow it had quite overpowering taste and the pie was a tad too hard to bite

Addiction Cafe & Remedy Bar @ Marina Square

Marina Square has done some revamp recently on one of its building wings, it is named The Dining Edition, where new collective of eateries are located.

We haven't been to Addiction Café & Remedy Bar at Dempsey but knowing it has an outlet at Marina Square, it certainly whisked my appetite to visit this café here while we were around that vicinity.

The café was in the inside end but it has an open concept for its venue; modern and simple looking, kind of reminded me of Scandinavian design.

Too bad that we were quite full from breakfast, we didn't sample appetizer or dessert at this café. From what we had, it definitely worth the visit. Its food was better than regular café, fresh ingredients and twist on certain dishes.

It was late lunch hour, so, not many patrons here and only a single waiting staff on standby. I was impressed though, by her professionalism, she was courteous and attentive enough even though not so nearby tables were also in need of her attention.

I would say though, it seems that Dempsey outlet may be better suitable in line with their dishes and ambience, there is something amiss of having an outlet here. Not that I complain on the location but somehow the ambience doesn't really suit the whole concept of Addiction itself.

From its menu, I would recommend the Earl Grey Salmon Egg Benedict, it had Earl Grey scented aroma yet not overpowering.

Would love to return to Addiction for its other dish and drink, perhaps, we shall go to Dempsey next time. But if you are looking for all day breakfast or brunch menu around Marina Square area, this is the place to visit

The drink menu in this wooden box with slot in panel is certainly a charm
Palatable Platter for your palate; what a motto!
On the back of its menu

Very Scandinavian looking furniture

Very open concept all around the café

Open view to kitchen area
Our good, simple, mixed fresh juices

Earl Grey Salmon Benedict with sautéed mushroom and citrus hollandaise

I would say that this was one of best salmon egg benedicts I've ever had; the eggs was poached perfectly, you got hints of earl grey aroma and citrus yet not overpowering
Linguine with crab meat in cherry tomato sauce
It was a no fail dish especially for those crab lovers

Open Door Policy / ODP @ Yong Siak St

Since the revival of Tiong Bahru area, we are bound to hear or read about Open Door Policy or known easily as ODP at this hip neighbourhood area. Along with Books Actually, 40 Hands and many more.

Always heard good rave about ODP so after many delays, we finally made it for brunch.

Reservation is A MUST at ODP, especially if you are in a group of 4 or more; as I heard the manager said it has 2-weeks waiting time.. Wow...Really Wow...for a venue like ODP in a neighbourhood that is not closed to Orchard Road, it kinda hard to believe if I didn't hear it by myself.

We were seated at the high counter table even though the 2 ladies came after me were seated at the lower counter table facing the glass separator to kitchen. When I asked whether I could move to vacant seats next to that 2 ladies, I was being given answer No and it was reserved. Even though, it made me puzzled in the first place on why I wasn't seated there first and to make matter worse, the seats later on was not given to patrons who had reservation.

Not a very good impression given by this 'manager-like' staff. The way he answered the phone and anyone who came in without reservation felt a bit pretentious and somewhat sounded quite arrogant.

His insincerity also reflected on how he gave different attitude to different patrons. You could just tell who is genuinely friendly and courteous and who is not in F&B industry or shall I say who is well trained and who is not.

It was a pity indeed to encounter this minor fault in front service to otherwise good waiting staff (others that delivery our dishes) and good food in a very chic, very Manhattan vibe venue.

When our brunch came, it looked delish; well presented with fresh ingredients and a good portion for brunch per pax. These dishes definitely worth a visit for a good brunch.

It was no surprise that the restaurant were running full; even though we ought to consider this is a venue which is not easy to find if you are not familiar with this neighbourhood, a walk is required if you are taking public transport and looking for a parking spot is quite a nag in weekend where parking area is quite limited.

But, I really got to give kudos to Esprit Group to come up with such a clever interior design in such a tight space. Even the restroom is nicely laid out. To feel like as if you were in NYC bistro is not an easy feat.

We didn't order our dessert as we were intending to explore this neighbourhood which bound to take us to pastry shop nearby.

For bar seating outside the entrance

Didn't expect the menu to look like this

What we were facing at the counter table; the drinks prep area

As you could see, it was such a tight space, quite difficult to maneuver for staff

View to Yong Siak St

Clever announcement board near entrance

Tightness of space resulting in clever storage
 View to the kitchen
 My fresh juice
Ice Coffee with a bottle of sugar..how cute was that?

the greasy spoon (a proper London café style full English breakfast)
I would say this was the best presented full English breakfast that I've ever seen
It was cooked to perfection and I fell in love with their toasted sourdough (from a non fan of sourdough)

eggs benedict 'a la' Indian, poached eggs with sautéed spinach, sourdough and curried hollandaise sauce
Again, it was well presented, beautifully cooked poached eggs and indeed, the sauce had that hint of curry but not overwhelming
The restroom is located in the back of the room, next to a group table, so instead of making it direct entrance to restroom, this sliding doors proceeded to washing basin area before restroom cubicle
It was tight, it was dim yet it didn't feel dingy at all

Where to eat at Orchard Road?

Orchard Road is a must go to for anyone who is visiting or live in Singapore. It is a shopping belt with glitzy shopping malls and myriads of shops and eateries.

If you plan to have your meal from breakfast to dinner somewhere at Orchard than the regular food courts, hope these restaurants review may be of assistance.

It is a long stretch of Orchard Road that you can cover, this recap covers from Orchard Central to Scotts Road area.

From Orchard Central to
Dean & Deluca
Good for brunch, light meal or tea break and buying gift too. It's on 4th floor of Orchard Central, there is a long escalator that will take you directly to Dean & Deluca.

Cathay Cineleisure (Behind Mandarin Gallery)
Raindrops Café
A small café/bistro with access from Cathay Cineleisure back side door (next to KFC), it is ideal for hanging out with few of your buddy for a chat. Food was good and nicely presented

Continuing to Mandarin Gallery/Mandarin Orchard Hotel
Tonkatsu by Ma Maison
Good for a hearty meal either lunch or dinner. This is one of the popular restaurants scattered throughout Mandarin Gallery; beside Ippudo, Ma Maison seems to be the most go to here.

Antoinette @ Mandarin Gallery
You wouldn't miss this Parisian looking bistro, with its pastry counter at the entrance and long queue during lunch hour. Ideal for light meal follow by pastry and a cup of tea or coffee.

Triple Three @ Mandarin Orchard Hotel
Famous buffet restaurant in this smack in the middle of Orchard Road. The hotel went into major revamp and its restaurants too. Triple Three has an open concept but I found its grilling station to be the most outstanding. I didn't like its live station though during my last visit; hate it when they cooked live prawns alive after scooping it out in front of you, a bit distasteful for a hotel standard.

And across to Ngee Ann City / Takashimaya
TWG @ Takashimaya Ngee Ann City
Latest opening of TWG, I couldn't help but felt this outlet tried too hard and its staff let it down from their lack of attention and half-hearted service. Even though, the lunch or dinner dish was quite good. Warning to first timer, you will be overwhelmed by their Tea List; a hint for you, it is not so much different from the basic teas (Earl Grey, Oolong, Jasmine) so just pick one from the basic flavour.

Pique Nique
This more suitable for youngster, it is at Basement 1, next to KFC and entrance to Takashimaya Dept. Store, you wouldn't miss its whimsical décor which quite rare to see inside Ngee Ann City. Good for western brunch/eggs, ham, bacon and fries collection.

From Ngee Ann, we across the main road to Paragon; food spots mostly located at B1
OCha Cha
This is a simple bistro specializing in Green Tea/Ocha at B1, opposite Starbuck, cladded with light green and white décor. It served simple Japanese fusion meal from sandwich to cold noodles. A must try is their Smoked Chicken Somen Noodle served cold, it was a fantastic dish; light but enough to satisfy your hunger with a sip of fantastic ocha.

If you come early to Paragon before lunch hour, it is recommended to try Shimbashi Soba, which also at Basement 1; serving handmade soba cold and hot. There is no food court at Paragon but you will find myriad of restaurants at B1 with enough diversity for your food hunt.

I do like the Sushi Tei located on 5th floor if you are looking to more comprehensive Japanese menu or those in favour of Chinese, there is always the Imperial Treasure on same floor.

From Paragon, take a walk passing Lucky Plaza to Tangs Ochard
Island Cafe
Where you will Love this café located on 4th floor; it serves Good local cuisine as well as western with Excellent service. Popular local dishes like Char Kwey Tiauw, Laksa, Chicken Rice, Chicken Biryani Rice and Soft Shell Crab Tang Hoon are patron favourite. You can always get a seat and it is a good spot to rest and have your meal after a good day around Orchard or before starting your Orchard shopping venture.

It is a sure no fail spot each time we visit Island Café, but beware that some of popular dishes may out of order by evening time.

Walking down passing Tangs Orchard, you will meet the newest addition of apartment and sizeable shopping spot on Scott Square. Restaurants are not many but it certainly hand-picked to be among the best

Wild Honey @ Scott Square
From 3rd floor, this is one of the most popular restaurants in Singapore; it never ending queue and reservation is a Must. Willing to wait for 1 hour...Perhaps its novel concept of serving All Day Breakfast from all over the world is the winning formula...

Arossa
Down to 2nd floor, this is one of hidden gem in Orchard and for fusion lover; Japanese fusion food is always a delight

Delicious
Going further down to B1, everyone will be lured in to visit this Turquoise, Black, White and Timber coloured restaurants with its hanging bird cage. Serving us western and Malaysian dishes

Going out from Scott Square and down to the underpass leading to ION Orchard, where you are bound to find a spot to eat from its B4 to 55th floor.

Salt Grill and Sky Bar
Accessing from 4th floor to the ION Gallery Hall, you would be enveloped in darkness going up the chic elevator to this restaurant. A fine dining by Australian Chef, Luke Mangan; in middle of Orchard Road which beyond what we imagined from a busy mall like ION. An excellent choice for hosting corporate guests, romantic dinner to special occasion with family. An impressive venue...

Jones the Grocer
On 4th floor itself; head to Jones the Grocer, for light western meal and your organic food supply

Marmalade Pantry
Down to 3rd floor, you won't miss this restaurant, always popular. Good spot for brunch.

TWG
From 3rd floor, we are down to 1st floor; a very popular and long queue during tea break hour. Have a meal or tea break and pastry here

Nara Thai
Newest opened restaurant at ION at B3 and what an oasis to visit at ION Orchard among the Western, Japanese and Chinese restaurant. This is a place to go for authentic Thai food. You won't regret it!

Toss & Turn
At B4, if food court and other small stalls are not what your heart desire, gearing toward healthy and weight conscious is then this is a good spot to try.

Leaving food spots galore at B4 of ION Orchard, going up to B2; you will find a linkway to Wheelock Place
Nam Nam @ Wheelock Place
Where you will see this when you are walking from B2 ION to Wheelock Place B2; a casual Vietnamese eatery serving Pho Bo (Noodle in Hanoi Stye) and sandwiches

Bangkok Jam
Going up to 2nd floor, you will not miss this attractive open concept restaurant serving Thai cuisine

Connecting by underpass or main road crossing, you will go to Shaw House
Tonkichi @ Shaw House
Few restaurants on 4th floor but it seems Tonkichi is the most popular.

There is some construction going on at Shaw House but if you are walking toward DFS Galleria direction, you will pass Pacific Plaza, a small shopping centre with an eclectic and vibrant handmade burger spot from famous chef, Bruno Menard
&Made by Bruno Menard
Cleverly called &Made (Handmade), it is a different take of burger that you know..

It is quite a feast to dine at Orchard Road, there is always something new and I will update this list as it goes..

In the meantime, enjoy your trip along Orchard Road...
